Awards, Donations, Sports Take Center Stage as OGS Oro Celebrates 66th Founders’ Day

Oro Grammar School, OGS Oro has marked its 66th Founder’s Day on March 5th, 2024 with a memorable inter-house sports competition and awards ceremony, attended by distinguished guests, including notable alumni and community leaders.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Founders’ Award to His Excellency, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Governor of Kwara State, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and dedication to the advancement of education in the state.
Among the honoured awardees were Alhaji Yekeen Mustapha Olowogada, Alhaji Razaq Shittu, Alhaji Kabir Aliu of Matrix Energy, and Elder Foluso Alao, the immediate past president of Oro Grammar School Old Students Association, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the school and the society.

Others included HRM Oba Ademola Julius Ajibola (Mt Olive), Olusin of Ijara Isin, Former principals of the school, ANCOPS Chairman in Kwara state among other several important personalities that contributed to the development of the school in one way or the other.
The spirit of generosity was evident as Olowogada, Shittu, and Aliu donated various sports equipment and lawnmowers to the school, showcasing their commitment to nurturing talent and promoting sports development.
Furthermore, the Executive of the Old Students Association, represented by Engineer Yemi Shaniyi and Mr. Funsho Adedayo, demonstrated unwavering support by making a generous cash donation of N200,000 to bolster sports development initiatives within the school.
The fiercely contested inter-house sports competition showcased the students’ athleticism and teamwork, with Adejinle House emerging victorious and Adewoye House securing a commendable second place.
In a heartwarming display of solidarity, the 1974 set of alumni announced their commitment to enhancing the school’s infrastructure by embarking on the construction of a mini pavilion near the sports ground, underscoring the enduring bond between the alma mater and its alumni.
In her remarks, the Principal of OGS Oro, Mrs. Janet Adeleke, expressed gratitude for the visionaries who laid the foundation of Oro Grammar School, acknowledging their resilience in overcoming challenges to establish an institution of academic excellence.
Mrs. Adeleke praised Governor AbdulRahman’s unwavering commitment, stating, “His dedication to education has left indelible marks in most schools in Kwara State and in the lives of our students, aligning perfectly with the values of the Founders and Oro Grammar School.”
She further acknowledged the outstanding contributions of other notable individuals, including the former Minister for Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and Senator Lola Ashiru, whose generous donations have significantly enhanced the school’s facilities and resources.
The school principal also extended gratitude to the Board of Proprietors, the Parent-Teacher Association, and the dedicated management and staff for their relentless efforts in upholding the school’s legacy of excellence.
She urged current students to seize opportunities and strive for greatness, reminding them of their role as ambassadors of Oro Grammar School’s rich history.
The event concluded with a sense of pride and unity, encapsulating the ethos of Oro Grammar School and its dedication to nurturing future leaders and champions both in academics and sports.
