The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has concluded a two-day assessment visit to Benue State, pledging to intensify military action against those responsible for the recent attacks in Yelwata community.

General Musa made this declaration during an interactive session with community, traditional, and religious leaders in Benue State, alongside Governor Rev Father Hyacinth Alia and Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.

The CDS described the attack and killings as “uncalled for and senseless,” commiserating with the community over the loss of lives and property.

He urged the community to collaborate with the military and other security agencies to eliminate criminal elements, stressing that “we must all agree this must stop.”

The Defence Chief called on the people to make a determination to stop the violence, emphasizing the need for collective action to restore peace.

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun assured the community of his commitment to relentlessly pursue criminal elements and bring them to justice.

He further assured that security agencies would not rest until perpetrators are brought to book, working tirelessly to ensure lasting peace returns to Benue State.

Governor Rev Father Hyacinth Alia expressed high concern about the tragic bloodshed that has befallen his people.

However, he expressed confidence in the prompt intervention and presence of security agencies, believing it would rekindle hope for continuous living.

During a town hall meeting with stakeholders from Benue’s three geopolitical zones, General Musa appealed for unity and trust-building between the armed forces and the people.

He emphasized the importance of collective effort in addressing security challenges, urging stakeholders to work with the military to bridge trust deficits and restore confidence in state institutions.

In another development, the CDS received an operational briefing from commanders under Operation Whirl Stroke at the 401 Special Forces Brigade Headquarters.

He directed commanders to protect lives and properties of law-abiding citizens, intensifying collaboration with local communities to devise long-term solutions to security problems.
