CDS Tasks Troops on Intensified Offensive Against Terrorists in North-West

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to step up ongoing military operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in the North-West, declaring that the country must be made safe “at all cost.”
Oluyede gave the charge during an operational visit to the Headquarters, Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The visit, according to a statement on Monday by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, was aimed at assessing the operational readiness of troops, addressing challenges, and boosting their morale in the ongoing fight to restore peace in the region.

Addressing the troops, the CDS commended their resilience and sacrifices in the line of duty, urging them to remain disciplined, professional, and relentless in combating insecurity.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” Oluyede said.
He assured the personnel of continued military support, particularly in the areas of welfare, training, and provision of necessary equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
Oluyede also reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace is achieved across the North-West and the country at large.
Acknowledging the importance of coordinated operations, the CDS noted that efforts were ongoing to strengthen air support and improve synergy across various theatres of operation.
As part of the visit, Oluyede paid a courtesy call on the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, where he expressed appreciation for the state government’s support to military operations.
He also commended residents of the state for their cooperation and urged continued collaboration, especially in the area of timely and credible intelligence sharing.
In his response, Lawal lauded the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and sustained efforts in tackling insecurity in Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
The visit featured an operational briefing, inspection of troops’ deployments, interaction with personnel, and a media engagement session.
