In a landmark judgment, Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced Abdulrahman Ballo to death by hanging for the murder of Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, a 24-year-old final year student of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.
Delivering her judgment on Thursday, Justice Ajayi described the crime as “the highest degree of human wickedness”.
The court found Ballo guilty of the heinous crime and subsequently handed down the death penalty.

However, the court discharged and acquitted four other suspects who were standing trial alongside Ballo.
They include Ahmed Abdulwasiu, 41; Suleiman Muyideen, 28; Jamiu Uthman, 29; and Abdulrahmon Jamiu, 31.
The acquitted suspects were alleged to have been involved in the crime, but the court found no sufficient evidence to link them to the murder.
INCNews247 reports that the case had drawn widespread attention and condemnation from the public, with many calling for justice for the deceased student.
The judgment has brought closure to the family and friends of the victim, who had been anxiously awaiting the outcome of the trial.
