Court Sends Motorist to Jail for Assaulting FRSC Operatives

A Magistrate Court sitting in Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, has sentenced a motorist, Mr. Kazeem Abdullahi, to one month imprisonment for assaulting patrol operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
INCNews247 learnt the incident occurred on April 22, 2024, along the Oye-Ifaki road in Ekiti State.
Mr. Kazeem was arraigned on a lone count charge under Section 187 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021, bordering on assault on a law enforcement officer.

He was found guilty but was given a lenient sentence due to being a first-time offender with dependents, and having apologized to the FRSC.
The court, presided over by His Worship, Snr Magistrate Salau ME, gave Mr. Kazeem an option of a fine of #5000 in lieu of imprisonment.
The judgment was a result of a case file number MOY/15C/2024, which was first presented before the court on May 9, 2024.
The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, commended the judiciary for the quick dispensation of justice, warning that assaults on FRSC personnel will not be tolerated.
He also lamented the frequent attacks on FRSC personnel, which have resulted in the loss of lives of patrolmen on highways.
