EFCC Arrests Bobrisky

By Roselyn James

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on allegations related to currency mutilation and the improper use of naira notes.

According to EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Bobrisky was taken into custody in Lagos on Wednesday night and is currently detained pending legal proceedings.

INCNews247 reports that the arrest of the celebrity, who gained fame for cross-dressing, has sparked controversy, particularly after receiving the “Best Dressed Female” award at a recent movie premiere on March 25, 2024.

However, Nigeria Police Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi clarified that there is no specific law in Nigeria targeting transvestites, emphasizing that cross-dressing itself is not illegal.

Adejobi stressed the necessity of substantial evidence before making arrests or pursuing legal action.

He reiterated his stance on Channel TV on April 2nd, 2024 stating, ” I have not read anywhere that cross-dressing is an offence in Nigeria.

“The issue is that some of those who are into cross-dressing are allegedly onto something else.

He emphasized the importance of evidence to substantiate claims of criminal activity, noting that both currency mutilation and misuse are punishable under Nigerian law.
