The Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, has expressed readiness to partner with the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) to enhance public enlightenment on fire safety and disaster prevention.

This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Command, Assistant Superintendent of Fire I (ASF I) Modibbo Ibrahim, to the ASKOMP Chairman, Mr. Salihu Shola Taofeek, in Ilorin.

Speaking during the visit, Ibrahim commended ASKOMP for its impactful contributions to the media space, noting that the media plays a crucial role in agenda-setting and public education.

“Media plays an important role in society, especially in terms of shaping narratives. It is very important for us to build a productive relationship with the media so that we can reach a wider audience with our activities,” he said.

He explained that the operations of the Fire Service are anchored on humanitarian service, with a focus on saving lives and protecting property.

“Apart from showcasing our activities, we also need to train and sensitise the public on safety tips, and there is no way we can achieve that without a synergy with the media,” he added.

In his remarks, ASKOMP Chairman, Mr. Salihu Shola Taofeek, lauded the gesture of the Fire Service PRO in reaching out to the media community, stressing that the collaboration was timely and necessary.

He noted that the objectives of the Command align with the mandate of the Association, particularly in creating awareness for public safety and community development.

“One of the core principles of the Press is to serve society, and I believe our synergy will go a long way in preventing avoidable fire incidents by educating the public through the media,” he said.

Taofeek further assured the leadership of the Fire Service of ASKOMP’s continuous support in promoting its activities and driving public awareness on safety issues across the state.
