To alleviate traffic congestion on the two Niger bridges connecting Onitsha and Asaba, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has partnered with the Anambra and Delta States Commands of the Nigeria Police Force.
INCNews247 reports that this proactive approach aims to extenuate traffic gridlock on the major corridor during the festive season.
The partnership was formed following a critical session between the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, and the Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, as well as his counterpart in Delta State, CO BS Oluwafemi.

To address the traffic challenges, the FRSC and the Nigeria Police Force will implement several measures.
All checkpoints at the Head Bridge will be removed from December 18, 2024, to January 10, 2025, to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
Additionally, a mobile surveillance unit will be established at the Second Bridge axis to monitor and manage traffic.
The Nigeria Police Force will also dismantle all police checkpoints on the Delta side of the Old Niger Bridge to facilitate free traffic flow.
Furthermore, adequate deployment of officers will be made for joint traffic control on the two bridges during the yuletide season.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has commended the Sector Commander for the synergy, stating that the collaboration will strengthen the resolve of the Corps towards achieving safety and ease of movement for all road users on the Niger bridges during the festive period.
Mohammed has called on the motoring public to cooperate with road traffic management personnel and comply with all traffic rules and regulations.
