FRC and NiMet to Collaborate on Sustainability

By Roselyn James

To improve business sustainability practices in Nigeria, representatives from the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria ( FRC) and the Nigerian Meteorological  (NiMet) Agency convened to identify potential areas of collaboration. Prof. Charles Anosike, the Director General and CEO of NiMet, called for close cooperation with the FRC on Monday.

According to a brief statement provided to newsmen on Monday, the head of Nimet made this call during a courtesy visit to Dr. Rabiu Olowo, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the FRC in Abuja.

He declared, “Financial regulators are starting to prioritize climate change.” Sustainability methods stem from the work that we conduct at NiMet, specifically from our weather and climate reports. Through this collaboration, NiMet and FRC will be able to grow capacity together.

Olowo informed the head of Nimet that there is room for both organizations to work together to fulfill their respective main missions. He went on to mention climate threats and possibilities as well as sustainable reporting as potential areas of cooperation.

There are chances for NiMet and FRC to coordinate in carrying out their respective primary mandates, particularly in the areas of sustainability reporting and climate opportunities and risks, according to Olowo. Sustainability reporting is something we support, but FRC also encourages sustainable behaviors in Nigerian organizations.”

During the courtesy visit, a few directors and senior employees from the two agencies were also in attendance.
