Fuel Price Hike: TDF Knocks ADC Spokesman

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Democratic Front, TDF has criticised the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, over his comments on the recent increase in fuel prices, describing his position as thoughtless.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group faulted Abdullahi for criticising the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over developments it said were beyond the government’s control, particularly in the wake of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The group described as “sad and regrettable” what it termed the ADC’s desperation for power, alleging that it had deprived the party of empathy towards the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

TDF also dismissed Abdullahi’s claim that Nigerians were still waiting for the fulfilment of the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, insisting that the administration’s policies were already yielding tangible results across various sectors.

It further accused the ADC spokesman of hypocrisy, alleging that he had ignored key government interventions, including the student loan scheme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which it said had provided support to indigent students in tertiary institutions.

According to the group, the increase in revenue accruing to the Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC had also enhanced the capacity of state governments to implement projects aimed at improving socio-economic conditions at the grassroots.

The statement added that Abdullahi had previously acknowledged the significance of the student loan scheme in a policy piece, noting that his current position contradicted his earlier stance.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, the group pointed to investments in agriculture, which it claimed were strengthening food security and contributing to a reduction in inflationary pressures.

It also took a swipe at Abdullahi’s past role as a minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan, alleging that the administration failed to utilise oil revenues effectively to drive economic growth and industrial development.

The TDF maintained that, in contrast, the current administration had recorded progress in housing and healthcare, citing the construction of thousands of housing units for low- and middle-income earners and expanded access to health insurance coverage for millions of Nigerians.

The group added that the government had also increased funding for the health sector and trained tens of thousands of frontline health workers as part of broader reforms.

It urged Abdullahi to desist from what it described as a campaign of misinformation against the Tinubu administration, warning that such actions would not advance the fortunes of the opposition party.

The statement added that the achievements recorded so far under the Renewed Hope agenda demonstrated the administration’s commitment to addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges.
