ICPC Gets Ex-Agric Deputy Director Jailed for Age Falsification, Salary Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has secured the conviction of a retired Deputy Director with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dare Adebowale Oladapo, for falsifying his age and illegally collecting salaries and allowances after his retirement.

Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, delivered the judgment on October 7, 2025, after finding Oladapo guilty on two counts bordering on false declaration and corrupt self-enrichment.

The ICPC, in a statement on Tuesday signed by its spokesperson, Demola Bakare, said the convict altered his date of birth to unlawfully extend his years of service and, in the process, received unearned salaries totalling ₦1,233,258.95 between December 2019 and April 2020.

The anti-graft agency said Oladapo changed his date of birth from November 11, 1959, to November 11, 1964, through a falsified record at the National Population Commission, and backed it up with an affidavit dated February 15, 2012.

According to the statement, “Investigations by the Commission revealed that the defendant had falsified his date of birth to extend his years of service unlawfully and, in doing so, conferred an undue advantage upon himself.”

Prosecuting counsel, Kalu Ugbo and Zainab Moshood, told the court that Oladapo’s fraudulent act violated Sections 19 and 25 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Justice Yusuf, after reviewing the evidence, found him guilty on Counts One and Two for making false statements and conferring a corrupt advantage upon himself, contrary to Section 25(1)(a) and punishable under Section 25(1)(b) of the ICPC Act.

However, the judge discharged and acquitted him on Count Three, which bordered on using his office to confer an unfair advantage upon himself.

The court thereafter sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment with an option of ₦100,000 fine on each count and ordered him to refund ₦1,233,258.95 to the Federal Government, being the total amount of salaries and allowances he unlawfully collected after retirement.

“The convict has since paid the ₦200,000 fine and refunded the full sum of ₦1,233,258.95 into the ICPC Recovery Account as directed by the court,” the statement added.
