Ishowo Calls for Urgent Action on Ilorin/Ogbomosho Highway Attacks

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

Comrade Ishowo Olanrewaju, a Kwara-based public affairs analyst, has raised an alarm over the persistent attacks by bandits and armed robbers along the Ilorin/Ogbomosho highway.

Speaking with INCNews247 at the weekend, Ishowo said the route, particularly at Ote-Lasoju has become notorious for the activities of these criminals, who seem to have a field day with travelers during their operations.

He noted that “The evil activities of these armed robbers have become a daily occurrence,” adding that “virtually all the commercial drivers, local aso oke merchants and commuters plying the road every day have always had one ugly incident or other to report. It’s unacceptable that innocent lives are being lost, and something needs to be done urgently.”

Ishowo called on the Kwara state government to employ mechanisms to find solutions to the incessant attacks, robbery, and killings at the axis.

He suggested that the government should explore the possibility of establishing a local police apparatus similar to Amotekun, which has been effective in adjoining states in the Southwest.

“Amotekun has made the region unhabitable for bandits, which is why they’re finding Kwara as a fertile land to perpetrate their evil activities,” Ishowo explained. “We need to take decisive action to protect our citizens’ Lives and property and to also ensure that our state is not seen as a safe haven for criminals.”

The patriot also urged the affected communities to be vigilant and always report any strange faces to the appropriate authorities.

“We can’t afford to fold our arms and watch as innocent lives are lost,” he emphasized. “We need to work together to find a lasting solution to this menace.”

The incessant attacks on the Ilorin/Ogbomosho highway have claimed many lives and left several others injured. The route is a major artery for commerce and transportation in the region, and the persistent attacks are not only a security concern but also an economic one.

As he noted, “The state government needs to take immediate action to address this issue. We can’t afford to wait until more lives are lost. The people of Kwara deserve better, and it’s time for us to take the bull by the horns”.
