Keffi–Abuja Crash: FRSC Corps Marshal Mourns Seven Victims, Orders Probe

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic crash that claimed the lives of seven persons along the Keffi–Abuja Highway at Angwan Jarmi on Thursday.

In a statement made available to journalists, Mohammed described the incident as painful and devastating, stressing that no loss of life on the nation’s highways was acceptable.

Preliminary reports, according to him, indicated that the crash involved a lone vehicle suspected to have been driven at excessive speed, leading to loss of control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding.

The Corps Marshal said rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene upon receiving distress alerts.

He, however, lamented that on arrival, FRSC personnel encountered heightened tension from some members of the public, including commercial motorcycle operators, which escalated into a mob attack on the Keffi Unit Command of the Corps.

While acknowledging the emotional reactions that often follow fatal crashes, Mohammed assured that he had ordered a comprehensive and transparent investigation into all circumstances surrounding the incident, including allegations of possible patrol-related factors.

“We will not be hasty in apportioning blame, neither will we dismiss public concerns. Any personnel found to have acted outside established operational standards will be held accountable in line with our regulations,” he stated.

The FRSC boss commended the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army for their swift intervention, noting that their timely response helped restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, warning that violence against rescue and enforcement personnel undermines collective efforts to safeguard lives.

Mohammed reiterated the Corps’ commitment to professionalism, restraint and community engagement, assuring Nigerians that the FRSC would continue to uphold road safety, fairness and transparency as investigations into the crash proceed.
