The Kwara State Government has approved the reopening of all public and private schools across the state from Monday, February 2, 2026, following what it described as an improvement in the security situation.
The approval was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who said school authorities had been duly informed of the decision.

According to the commissioner, the reopening comes amid sustained security operations aimed at neutralising threats to lives and property, including those affecting schools.
“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance,” Olohungbebe said.
He noted that security agencies were maintaining steady operations to consolidate the gains recorded in recent weeks, while the state government intensifies efforts to build community resilience alongside ongoing kinetic interventions.
The commissioner assured parents and guardians that the safety of pupils, students and teachers remained a top priority of the administration.
