The Ilorin Likeminds Foundation has elected Alhaji Lukman Atanda Abdullah as its new President, following the conclusion of its 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ilorin on Wednesday.

The meeting, which also served as the foundation’s election congress, marked the end of the four-year tenure of the outgoing executive committee led by Alhaji Saheed Alakoso.

In his valedictory address, Alakoso expressed gratitude to members for their unwavering support, noting that the collaboration and commitment of all stakeholders underpinned the achievements of his administration.

He stressed that the foundation had, over the past four years, implemented several impactful initiatives, including selective medical support for indigent patients, expanded Ramadan food distribution, scholarships for needy students, and continuous social assistance during members’ events.

Alakoso further noted that the foundation successfully attracted a sporting facility to Mohammed Kamaldeen University, strengthened internal governance through the inauguration of additional officers and standing committees, and launched an official website to improve visibility and engagement.

He urged members to extend similar support to the incoming leadership, stressing that the continuity of progress rested on collective effort.

The election saw Alhaji Lukman Atanda Abdullah emerge as president of the foundation.

He will be supported by Professor Kayode Adam and Dr. Lanre Olumoh as Vice Presidents I and II, A.S. Moyosore, Esq. as General Secretary, Engr. Abolore Alanamu and Mallam Abdullateef Naallah as Assistant Secretaries.

Mohammed Abdulkadir Mohammed will serve as Publicity Director, Ahmed Alasinrin as Assistant Publicity Director, Dr. Usman Sheu Aladire as Treasurer, and Dr. Abdulkarim Sule Bako as Auditor.

In his acceptance speech, Abdullah promised to make Ilorin Likeminds as a platform for human capital development, emphasising that the new leadership would prioritise initiatives that tackle youth unemployment and social vices.

He observed that the increasing number of youths loitering on the streets highlighted the urgent need for skills acquisition and vocational training, which will form the cornerstone of his administration’s agenda.

“Our organisation must respond to the realities around us. We will focus on building the capacities of our youths, making them productive, self-reliant, and socially responsible,” Abdullah said.

He pledged inclusive leadership, acknowledging that the progress of the foundation depends on the active participation of all members, and commended the outgoing executive for laying a solid foundation.

The AGM also recognised the support of Alhaji A.U. Mustapha, SAN, who provided office space to enhance the foundation’s administrative operations.

The event, therefore, concluded with the presentation of awards to notable members in appreciation of their contributions.
