Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet following mounting allegations over discrepancies in his academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials.
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter to the President on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation.
He claimed that the allegations against him were politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu confirmed the minister’s resignation and commended him for his contributions to national development, wishing him success in his future endeavours.
The minister’s resignation comes after days of public pressure and media scrutiny following reports that questioned the authenticity of his University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) degree and NYSC discharge certificate.
INCNews247 reports that the controversy drew strong reactions from civil society groups and members of the public who demanded his immediate removal.
Although Nnaji consistently denied any wrongdoing, insisting that his credentials were genuine.
His resignation mirrors the 2018 case of former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, who also stepped down after a similar NYSC certificate forgery scandal.
