The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Ambassador Ismaila Abba Yusuf, has inaugurated a 17-member Central Security Committee for the 2026 Hajj operations.

Yusuf inaugurated the committee in Abuja, charging members to ensure the security, safety and overall well-being of Nigerian pilgrims during both the onshore and offshore phases of the pilgrimage.

The NAHCON chairman urged the committee to adopt proactive and preventive strategies, including robust monitoring of departure centres across the country to weed out undesirable elements.

He also tasked the members to prevent drug-related activities and human trafficking attempts that could compromise the integrity of the Hajj exercise and the country’s image.

Yusuf further advised the committee to carry out its responsibilities with vigilance, integrity and a high sense of duty, while ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims receive value for the resources committed to the pilgrimage.

He, therefore, directed the committee to work closely with security and intelligence agencies on issues with national security implications in order to safeguard pilgrims and prevent any potential damage to Nigeria’s reputation abroad.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, its head, Ambassador Lawal Rabiu, thanked the NAHCON chairman for the confidence reposed in members.

Rabiu assured that the committee would collaborate with relevant agencies to gather intelligence, coordinate operations and effectively address any security challenges that may arise during the 2026 Hajj operations.
