Hajj 2024: NAHCON Suspends Staff Allowances, Cut Others

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced that the recent economic downturn has significantly affected the stipends and allowances of its staff involved in the 2024 Hajj operations.

In a statement released by Fatima Sanda Usara, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs, on Thursday, NAHCON expressed deep regret over the situation, acknowledging the demanding nature of Hajj operations on its staff and their families.

“We understand how challenging these times are for our staff, especially given the exerting nature of Hajj operations,” said Malam Jalal Arabi, NAHCON Chairman, during a Zoom meeting with staff on offshore assignments.

INCNews247 was informed that due to financial constraints, specific allowances unique to NAHCON staff will remain suspended for the foreseeable future.

Despite this, the Commission says it remains optimistic about the possibility of reassessing staff allowances as the financial situation improves, even if it means only a minimal increase.

It added that staff members now have the option to return to Nigeria after completing 21 days of service if they choose to do so. This new measure aims to provide some relief and flexibility to the staff during these tough times.

The financial strain has also led NAHCON to seek medical volunteers from the National Medical Team and has affected the allowances of all operational committee members, including the Media Team, Ulama, Security, and other stakeholders.

“The reality reflects the situation in which the whole country finds itself,” said Arabi, soliciting maximum support and cooperation from all involved.

NAHCON’s leadership emphasized the importance of these measures in maintaining the overall success of the Hajj despite the financial hurdles.

“We appreciate the dedication and commitment of our staff and are grateful for their understanding during this challenging period,” stated Arabi. “Our priority remains the well-being of pilgrims and the success of the Hajj operations.”
