NCS, NAFDAC Sign MoU to End Illicit Drugs to Nigeria

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combat the influx of illicit pharmaceutical products and harmful substances into Nigeria.
The strategic partnership aims to strengthen collaboration between the two agencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi hailed the agreement as a culmination of years of dedicated dialogue and coordination, emphasizing the critical role of Customs in safeguarding national security, public health, and safety.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive scope of collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing, enabling real-time information exchange between agencies.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Moji Adeyeye, described the signing as a “significant stride,” highlighting the daily impact of regulated products on Nigerians.
She stressed that the partnership ensures food, drugs, and healthcare products meet the highest quality and safety standards.
Professor Adeyeye also warned of threats posed by unregulated products to national security, emphasizing the need to eliminate “ghost companies” operating outside official records.
The event took place on the second day of the Comptroller-General of Customs’ 2024 Conference held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
