The Nigeria Economic Zones Association (NEZA) has commended the managements of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) for calling for a 10-year moratorium on the implementation of the National Tax Policy (NTA) in Nigeria’s Free Zones.
NEZA, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Executive Secretary, I.O. Elegbede, described the call as timely and forward-looking, noting that it aligns with concerns earlier raised by the association in a press release dated September 1, 2025.

The association warned that an abrupt implementation of the NTA without a clearly defined transition framework could undermine investor confidence, lead to capital flight and discourage new investments into the Free Zone scheme.
According to NEZA, the proposed 10-year moratorium would provide a strategic window for policy harmonisation, sustained engagement with investors, regulatory clarity and the development of a globally competitive incentives framework for zone-based enterprises.
The association urged NEPZA and OGFZA to sustain their collaborative advocacy to protect the integrity of the Free Zone scheme, while reaffirming its readiness to work with relevant authorities to ensure policies do not erode the competitiveness and sustainability of Free Zones in the country.
