The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully facilitated the country’s inaugural shipment to Kenya under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).
Lucky Fibres, a subsidiary of the Tolaram Group, has become one of the pioneering companies to export goods to Kenya through this historic agreement.
During a visit to the Apapa Area Command on October 30, 2024, Olusegun Olutayo, Senior Trade Expert and Lead of Trade Enablement at the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, emphasized the collaborative spirit of AfCFTA.

Olutayo highlighted that the shipment to the port of Mombasa demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to intra-African trade.
He noted that the Secretariat in Ghana and Kenya’s implementation committee have been informed to ensure a seamless process.
“The Nigeria Customs Service has been fantastic; they are ready to facilitate trade,” Olutayo stated, affirming the service’s critical role as the Designated Competent Authority (DCA) under AfCFTA.
Assistant Comptroller Olusola Salako echoed Olutayo’s sentiments, highlighting NCS’s efforts to leverage technology for successful AfCFTA implementation in Africa.
“We have aligned with the World Customs Organisation’s mandates, prioritising trade importance. Our Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) and trained officers will facilitate trade,” Salako explained.
