Nigeria Customs Service Shortlists 286,697 for CBT in Ongoing Recruitment

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has announced that 286,697 candidates have been shortlisted to sit for its upcoming Computer-Based Test (CBT) as part of the ongoing recruitment exercise to fill 3,927 vacancies across various cadres.

The recruitment exercise, which was advertised on 27th December 2024, attracted 573,523 applications, out of which nearly half were screened out during the first phase of scrutiny.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Service’s National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the CBT is scheduled to hold from September 14 to 21, 2025, and will be conducted online.

According to the NCS, candidates can take the test from any convenient location, provided they use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and reliable internet access.

The Service clarified that the platform is not mobile-enabled, stressing that a facial verification process would be conducted at login.

The Customs Service further warned that the CBT application is highly sensitive to noise, body movements, and attempts to switch screens, noting that such infractions could result in automatic logout or outright disqualification.

To ensure candidates are adequately prepared, the NCS has made provisions for a mandatory pre-test session two days before the main examination.

“Two separate links will be sent to shortlisted applicants, one for the pre-test and another for the actual examination,” the statement added.

Applicants for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will also undergo an additional round of CBT in the next stage of the recruitment process, while those in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will not be affected by this provision.

Reassuring Nigerians of its commitment to transparency, Maiwada stressed that the recruitment remains strictly merit-driven and that the NCS will not demand payment at any stage.

He also urged applicants to rely only on official communication channels of the Service for verified updates.
