Nigerian Airways Retirees Seek PTAD’s Intervention on Pension Payroll

Retirees of the defunct Nigerian Airways have appealed to the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to expedite their onboarding onto the pension payroll, citing prolonged delays in accessing their entitlements.
The appeal followed a meeting on Tuesday between PTAD Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, and officials of the Association of Airways Retired Workers of Nigeria (AARWN).
Present at the meeting were AARWN Chairman, Onuh Stephen, and Ahmed Sulu Gambari, who represented the interests of the retirees.

During the discussion, the retirees raised concerns over delays affecting their pensions under the Defined Benefit Scheme, urging PTAD to intervene.
Responding, Odunaiya expressed empathy for the retirees and reaffirmed PTAD’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and dignity of all pensioners.
She, however, clarified that the Directorate operates strictly within its statutory mandate and cannot onboard pensioners without formal directives from the relevant authorities.
She advised the association to continue engaging the appropriate government agencies to facilitate the inclusion of Nigerian Airways retirees who were on the payroll prior to the airline’s liquidation.
“The Directorate remains committed to supporting retirees, but statutory limitations mean we can only act on formal instructions from competent authorities,” Odunaiya said.
