Nikki Haley has, in a significant turn of events, clinched a crucial victory over former President Donald Trump in the Republican primary held in Washington DC.
INCNews247 reports the development marks her first triumph over the ex-president in the ongoing 2024 campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
Despite facing defeat in her home state of South Carolina, Haley’s win in Washington DC makes her the first woman in US history to emerge victorious in a Republican primary.

The latest reports from the BBC’s US partner, CBS, indicate that Haley will secure all 19 Republican delegates at stake in Washington DC, bolstering her delegate count to 43 nationwide.
However, she still trails significantly behind Trump, who currently commands 247 delegates.
Haley’s commanding win in the capital, where she secured 62.9% of the vote compared to Trump’s 33.2%, underscores a notable shift in Republican dynamics.
Yet, it’s worth noting that Washington DC leans heavily towards the Democratic Party, with a relatively small Republican presence comprising around 23,000 registered voters.
Despite the symbolic significance of Haley’s victory, Trump maintains a formidable lead nationwide.
His campaign swiftly dismissed Haley’s win, labeling her as the “Queen of the Swamp,” highlighting a growing schism within the party.
As the Republican race intensifies, all eyes are now on Super Tuesday, where voters in 15 states and one US territory will play a pivotal role in shaping the nomination process.
With 874 delegates up for grabs, Haley remains steadfast in her commitment to continue her campaign until at least March 5th, determined to make her mark on the electoral landscape.
