The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has said its ward-level enrolment drive for the National Identification Number, which commenced on February 16, 2026, is ongoing and recording steady progress across the federation.

The commission reiterated that the NIN remains a mandatory requirement for accessing critical government services in the country, urging citizens and legal residents yet to enrol to take advantage of the decentralised exercise.

In a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, on Tuesday, the commission said the ward-level initiative was introduced to deepen identity enrolment at the grassroots and make the process more accessible to Nigerians.

“The National Identification Number remains a foundational requirement for accessing key government services. Citizens and residents who have not enrolled are encouraged to present themselves at designated ward enrolment centres,” the statement read.

To ensure a seamless process, NIMC advised members of the public to visit its official website, www.nimc.gov.ng to locate the nearest designated enrolment centre within their wards.

It also urged applicants to cooperate with enrolment officials and provide accurate information during registration.

The commission further called on the public to follow its verified communication channels for updates, including its website, X handle @nimc_ng, Instagram @nimc_ng, and its Facebook page, National Identity Management Commission – NIMC.

For pre-enrolment services, NIMC directed applicants to penrol.nimc.gov.ng, while those seeking data modification were advised to visit selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

The agency also encouraged Nigerians to download the NIN Authentication application, NINAUTH, available on iOS and Google Play Store, to facilitate secure digital identity verification.

It reaffirmed its commitment to achieving inclusive identity coverage nationwide and called on all citizens and residents to register and obtain their NIN.

For further enquiries, the commission urged members of the public to visit its website or contact its customer care line on 08000616462.
