The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has enrolled and issued National Identification Numbers (NINs) to 59,786 inmates across correctional centres in Nigeria.
INCNews247 reports that the feat is part of the Commission’s collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to ensure inclusivity and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the NIMC, 74% of inmates have been enrolled and issued NINs, with the remaining inmates set to be enrolled in the ongoing inmate enrollment exercise.

The Commission has expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Comptroller-General of NCoS, Mr. Nwakuche Ndidi, and the NCoS management and staff for their support.
In a related development, NIMC is set to commence ward-level enrollment across the country, a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen the National Identity System.
The NIMC Director-General and CEO, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, emphasized that the Commission aims to work with strategic partners to enrol and issue NINs to all Nigerians and legal residents in every ward, ensuring no one is left out.
This initiative is expected to further enhance the Commission’s efforts in promoting inclusivity and ensuring that every Nigerian and legal resident has access to a national identity.
