NITDA Receives e-Government Architecture Portal to Deepen Digital Transformation

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has received the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture Portal, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s digital transformation drive.

Abdullahi, who was represented by the agency’s Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr Dimie Warowei, received the platform during a handover ceremony held at the Continental Hotel Abuja on Thursday.

He described the development as the culmination of a strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

According to him, the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture initiative, which commenced in late 2022, is a key component of the country’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, designed to modernise public sector digital infrastructure through integrated systems and standardised frameworks.

He explained that Nigerian and Korean experts collaborated over the past two and a half years to review and upgrade the country’s enterprise architecture framework, resulting in a revised structure to improve interoperability, efficiency, and alignment with national priorities.

Abdullahi added that several reference models, including Technology, Business, and Service models, had been developed to guide implementation across ministries, departments, and agencies, noting that additional Data and Performance Reference Models were underway to further strengthen the system.

He said pilot programmes were carried out in key government institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS and NITDA, where capacity-building support and tailored digital transformation roadmaps were deployed.

The NITDA boss further disclosed that supporting infrastructure for the project was deployed by indigenous firm Qorebox Technologies Limited and hosted within the facilities of Galaxy Backbone, with a two-year maintenance plan to ensure stability.

He said, “The successful implementation of enterprise architecture across government will help reduce duplication, improve interoperability, and enhance service delivery.”

Abdullahi commended the Korean government and KOICA for their technical and strategic support, while reaffirming the agency’s commitment to expanding adoption of the framework nationwide.

In his remarks, the Country Director of KOICA, Eunsub Kim, described the handover as the outcome of a successful collaboration between KOICA and NITDA, commending the agency for its leadership in driving the initiative.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr Nadungu Gagare, represented by Johnson Bareyei, said the portal marked a transition from fragmented digital initiatives to a more coordinated national framework.

He noted that the development aligns with the ministry’s transformation agenda under the leadership of Dr Bosun Tijani, while appreciating the Korean government for its support and NITDA for successfully implementing the project.

The handover signals the beginning of a new phase, with NITDA expected to lead the operational management and long-term sustainability of the platform as the country intensifies efforts toward a more digitally driven public sector.
