The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Agriculture Development Fund (NADF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at leveraging emerging technologies to enhance agricultural productivity in Nigeria.

NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to boosting agriculture through digital technology to ensure food security.

Inuwa noted that the Minister is also invested in this initiative, having started the conversation and personally implementing digital technologies in his own farm.

The partnership will build on NITDA’s existing initiatives, such as the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA) and collaborations with universities and startups to develop and test technologies on farmlands.

This year, NITDA granted funds to startups with innovative ideas on using emerging technologies to boost agriculture.

In his remarks, NADF Executive Secretary, Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, emphasized the critical nexus between agriculture and technology, citing challenges like funding, climate change, and insecurity.

He highlighted the potential of technologies like AI, IoT, and data-driven decision-making to optimize agricultural productivity.

The collaboration is expected to facilitate monitoring and evaluation, enabling the allocation of limited resources more effectively.

With this partnership, NITDA and NADF aim to achieve the mantra of “doing more with less” and pave the way for future collaborations.
