OGSOSA: Olaiya Lawal Elected President, Hails Gov. AbdulRazaq for School Renovation
The Oro Grammar School Old Students Association at the 2021 annual general meeting held on June 5th, 2021 elected unanimously, Alhaji Olaiya Lawal as President. The new President Alh. Lawal who graduated from Oro Grammar school in 1969 as the Senior Prefect of his set is from Offa. He graduated from ABU Zaria in June 1976 as a Pharmacist, worked at Federal Ministry of Health and was one of the Ministry’s staff who became foundation staff of NAFDAC. He worked at different parts of the Country before he resigned to establish his Consultancy Firm (Kuality Konsult & Pharmaceutical Services). Now retired and a senior citizen, he takes over from Elder Folorunso Alao, an Osun state born administrator who retired as Permanent Secretary in the state civil service.
At the well attended annual general meeting at Ogunbiyi Hall, OGS, Oro, twice postponed due to covid19 lockdowns, the old students showered encomiums on the executive members who ended their tenure at the AGM for the monumental achievements they made during their time in office and challenged the incoming Executives to surpass their records. The position of General Secretary went to Dr Akinwale Adebiisi, a 1976 product of the school, while the position of Treasurer went to Ayo Samuel from the 1990 set.
In a release signed by the new secretary, Dr Akinwale Adebisi, he summarized the acceptance speech of the new President, where he promised to abide by the oath of office to which he swore and solicited the support of the new Executive members to take Oro Grammar school old students association to greater heights.
The President also praised the Government of AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for the massive renovation of the school and the new asphalted Oro Grammar school road. Alhaji Olaiya then expressed his thankfulness to God Almighty for the success recorded at the AGM of OGSOSA. He thanked all the delegates and the invited guests including the School Principal, Mrs Olufunke Gbadeyan, her team and students.
Finally, he promised to run an open and transparent policy and urged all members of the association to answer their calls whenever the Executive needs their assistance.
In her address, the Principal of the school, Mrs Olufunke Gbadeyan catalogued the achievements of the old students association for the school and expressed her sincere thankfulness. She capped it up with her praise for the state Governor on the renovation of the school and the new road. She continued by requesting the old students to support the school with a befitting school bus to help logistics as well as donation of books to the school library, among other requests.
Other activities at the event included donation of 30 copies of Business Studies textbooks by Mr Falola, a 1979 product of OGS, Oro, cash donations by the president, goodwill messages from past Principals, PTA as well as the chairman board of proprietors who specifically expressed his desire for an old student to be the next principal of OGS, Oro and at least two old students to become members of board of proprietors.
The event rounded off with prayers for the departed old students, principals and the new executive members.
