Quit Politics Now — Adeyanju Tasks Atiku
By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman
Abuja-based rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has urged the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to exit politics and guide the next generation of politicians.
In his New Year message, Adeyanju attributed Bola Tinubu’s presidency to Atiku’s insistence on running, stating that Atiku’s refusal led to the division in the opposition, ultimately favoring Tinubu’s victory.
Adeyanju emphasized Atiku’s significant contributions to Nigerian politics over three decades but highlighted the need for him to step back and mentor young politicians.
He pointed out that 2023 was Atiku’s prime opportunity for the presidency, but factors such as arrogance, poor interpersonal relationships, and failure to manage opposition led to his defeat.

Adeyanju underscored that Atiku’s collaboration with Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Nyesom Wike could have altered the election outcome, but their discord resulted in President Tinubu’s narrow victory.
Calling for Atiku to abandon his 2027 presidential aspirations, Adeyanju urged him to leave a legacy of unity within the opposition and support a younger politician for the presidency.
Adeyanju concluded by invoking the role of “Moses” for Atiku, urging him to be a unifying force, noting the importance of opposition collaboration for a stronger presence in the 2027 elections with a younger candidate.
