President Tinubu Extends Tenure of Customs Comptroller-General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for one year.
The extension, which takes effect from August 31, 2025, is aimed at enabling Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of the administration.
According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), the extension will allow Mr. Adeniyi to drive key projects, including the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

The President believes that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
The extension of Mr. Adeniyi’s tenure is expected to have a positive impact on the Nigeria Customs Service and the country’s economy.
With his experience and expertise, Mr. Adeniyi is well-positioned to drive the Service’s modernization efforts and ensure the effective implementation of key projects.
