The Tinubu Media Volunteers has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for donating his annual salary to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing the move as a clear demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of security personnel.
In a statement on Wednesday, signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the gesture reinforced the President’s personal concern over the country’s persistent security challenges.
The group noted that the President made the announcement as part of activities marking his 74th birthday, during which he unveiled a dedicated welfare fund aimed at supporting members of the armed forces, particularly those injured in the line of duty, as well as families of fallen soldiers.

According to the statement, Tinubu also directed the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account for the initiative, which is expected to cater for wounded service members, their widows, dependents and children.
The TMV described the move as a strong indication that the President was determined to ensure that personnel who risk their lives in defence of the nation are not abandoned or forgotten.
It added that Tinubu’s decision to forgo elaborate birthday celebrations in favour of what it termed a moment of reflection further demonstrated statesmanship and a sense of responsibility.
The group also disclosed that the President had called on private sector players, wealthy individuals, members of the National Assembly and other well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund.
“With this gesture, there is no doubt that he has discharged his solemn obligation as the country’s leader to show that Nigerian patriots who devote their lives to the service of the country will always be remembered, dead or alive,” the statement read.
The group further noted that the administration’s actions reflected a commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of security personnel are met with dignity, care and institutional support.
It commended the President for leading by example, noting that his decision to commit his annual salaries since 2023 to the fund signalled sincerity and leadership by action.
