Nigerian troops have successfully neutralized 50 terrorists and apprehended 114 others in the span of two week.
This information was disclosed by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing on ongoing military operations throughout Nigeria.
General Buba reported that in addition to these achievements, the troops also managed to arrest 19 individuals involved in oil theft and rescue 49 kidnapped hostages.
“Notably, in the South-South region, troops thwarted an estimated oil theft amounting to N968,160,050.00 (Nine Hundred and Sixty-Eight Million One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Fifty Naira),” Buba said.

He further remarked that the military forces recovered a substantial cache of weaponry, including 25 AK47 rifles, 4 locally fabricated rifles, 4 pistols, 6 pump-action guns, 12 Dane guns, and 3 AK47 rifles loaded with 50 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, among other assorted arms and ammunition.
General Buba emphasised the significance of addressing the issue of safe havens for violent extremist groups, which have been a persistent challenge. These safe havens have been instrumental in providing support for insurgent activities, including funding, materials, weapons, fighters, and command and control.
The Director explained, “There are safe havens spread across various theatres ranging from the tumbuns in the North East to other locations such as national parks, game reserves, and forests across the country.”
One such safe haven was recently discovered in the Aku Forest in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, where troops encountered horrifying and unspeakable activities, including acts of cannibalism.
