The Nigerian military has dealt another heavy blow to oil thieves operating in the Niger Delta, foiling illegal oil activities valued at over ₦224 million in one week.
This was revealed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, during a weekly update on military activities in Abuja.
According to Kangye, troops of Operation Delta Safe destroyed 21 illegal refining ovens, 11 storage tanks, seven boats, nine dugout pits, and six refining sites discovered across Rivers and Delta States.

He said the troops also intercepted 22,450 litres of crude oil, 5,500 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and 150,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) intended for illegal sale.
Eight suspected oil thieves were arrested, while a kidnapped victim was rescued during separate operations in Ahoada East, Toru, Ughelli North, Ethiope East, and Sapele local government areas.
Kangye stated that the success reflects the military’s commitment to curb economic sabotage, adding that troops would sustain patrols across the creeks to protect critical oil infrastructure.
“Our operations will continue to deny oil criminals the freedom to operate while restoring order and transparency in Nigeria’s petroleum sector,” he said.
