The Defence Headquarters says its troops have intensified security operations in Kwara State as part of efforts to prevent the infiltration of bandits and kidnappers fleeing military pressure in neighbouring states.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the military’s activities in January 2026.
According to him, troops operating under Operations Fansan Yamma and Whirl Stroke carried out successful operations in parts of Kwara State, leading to arrests and the rescue of kidnapped victims.

Onoja said that Kwara was among states covered by Operation Fansan Yamma, which recorded the arrest of suspects and the rescue of victims during coordinated offensives across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region.
He added that troops of Operation Whirl Stroke also conducted targeted operations in Oyun Local Government Area of the state following credible intelligence on criminal activities.
“These operations resulted in the arrest of criminals, rescue of kidnapped victims and recovery of arms and ammunition,” the Defence spokesman said.
He explained that the operations in Kwara were aimed at blocking escape routes and dismantling criminal networks attempting to establish new bases within the state.
The Defence Headquarters commended residents of Kwara for their cooperation and urged them to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
Onoja assured that military operations would be sustained in the state and across the North-Central region until lasting peace and stability are achieved.
