This meeting marks their third in just over a year, signaling a robust partnership while Russia continues to combat over two years of economic sanctions imposed by the West in response to its military actions in Ukraine.
These sanctions have pushed Russia to further deepen its ties with China, who has been a crucial ally, albeit controversially accused by Western nations of providing non-lethal support that indirectly assists Russia’s military efforts.
Despite these geopolitical complexities, the war in Ukraine remains a peripheral subject in China, where state media narratives often justify Russia’s actions against NATO expansion.
However, this narrative faces challenges from individuals like Ukrainian Vita Golod, who is actively working to present an alternative perspective to the Chinese public via social media.
Remarkably, her efforts have yet to be censored, suggesting a nuanced position by the Chinese authorities.
Xi emphasized China’s consistent stance on Ukraine, rooted in the principles of the UN Charter, expressing a desire for the swift restoration of peace in Europe.
