Ukraine Shares Expertise with Nigeria on One-Stop-Shop Portal for Government Services

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

As part of its commitment to implementing the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has intensified efforts to create a one-stop-shop portal for all government services.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to digitize 75% of government services by 2027.

The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, who recently played host to a delegation from the Ukrainian Embassy in Nigeria, led by Ambassador Ivan Kholostenko, at the Corporate Headquarters of the Agency in Abuja made the disclosure.

The meeting was aimed at discussing possible areas of collaboration between the two countries on ways of enhancing productivity, transparency, and trust in government processes.

During the meeting, Inuwa noted that NITDA has been playing a pivotal role in shaping the design, standard guidelines, and implementation strategies for the establishment of a centralized e-government portal.

He emphasized the need for a renewed commitment to pursuing the agenda, citing the importance of learning from global best practices.

Inuwa stated that NITDA has been researching how other countries, such as the UK and Kenya, have implemented unified digital government services platforms.

He expressed his belief that Nigeria can learn from these experiences to develop a framework that works for the country.

Inuwa also disclosed that NITDA is engaging with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to ensure alignment with global digital governance standards.

The Ukrainian Ambassador, Ivan Kholostenko, shared his country’s experience with digital governance, highlighting the success of the Diia application.

Diia is an ecosystem that encompasses all state registers, databases, and government services for citizens in one place.

Kholostenko expressed Ukraine’s interest in expanding the reach of this initiative and providing support for other countries to create similar systems.

Inuwa also disclosed that NITDA is engaging with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to ensure alignment with global digital governance standards. This collaboration is expected to provide valuable expertise and insights into structuring Nigeria’s digital transformation roadmap.

The meeting was a significant step towards achieving Nigeria’s digital transformation goals, and NITDA’s efforts to create a one-stop-shop portal for government services are expected to enhance efficiency, reduce corruption, and promote transparency in government operations.
