Three Nigerian women innovators have taken the spotlight at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), showcasing groundbreaking solutions that underline the transformative role of women in Africa’s tech-driven future.

The conference, held in Yokohama, Japan, with the theme “Co-Create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” provided a platform for leaders, investors, and stakeholders to forge new partnerships in advancing Africa’s development agenda.

At a thematic session dedicated to the continent’s startup ecosystems, the Nigerian innovators—finalists of the IgniteHer Bootcamp for Women Entrepreneurs—pitched their solutions before Japanese investors and global partners.

The bootcamp, jointly organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was aimed at breaking barriers limiting women’s participation in the tech ecosystem, particularly access to funding and mentorship.

One of the standout pitches was by Kemisola Bolarinwa, Founder of Nextwear Technologies, who unveiled an AI-powered device designed for the early detection of breast abnormalities.

The solution, she explained, is a vital tool in tackling late diagnosis and improving public health outcomes for women.

Also making waves was Anita Ngeri, founder of Nibi’s Tech, an ed-tech company equipping young Nigerians with digital skills.

Through partnerships with schools, particularly in the Niger Delta, her initiative offers training in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, and web design—nurturing the next generation of digital innovators.

Rounding off the pitches, Odion Ikyo, Co-Founder of PrimeSafePath Solutions, presented MaternalRecord Pro—Nigeria’s first AI-powered multi-tenant data automation platform for Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).

The solution seeks to replace paper-based records, enabling real-time data capture and early risk detection to help reduce maternal mortality rates.

Their participation reflects the objectives of Project NINJA, JICA’s flagship initiative supporting Africa’s startup ecosystems, strengthening funding opportunities, and building strategic ties between African innovators and Japanese investors.

Speaking on Nigeria’s representation, NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs and deepening international collaboration as part of the country’s digital transformation drive.

The strong showing by the Nigerian women underscored a broader message: empowering women in technology is not only about inclusion but a strategic step towards sustainable national and continental development.
