Ten members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC abducted by suspected kidnappers while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State have been rescued in Kogi State.

The corps members were rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, the Defence Headquarters disclosed on Monday.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, announced the development in Abuja.

Onoja said security forces were still conducting operations in the area to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, while encouraging them to provide security agencies with useful information.

He said, “The members of the public are urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movement or information that could help rescue the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators.”

INCNews247 reports that the victims were among 15 NYSC members reportedly abducted last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.

The corps members were said to have been travelling together when suspected kidnappers intercepted their vehicle and took them into the bush.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly demanded N20m from the families of some of the victims as ransom.

The rescue operation has continued as security personnel intensify efforts to locate and free the remaining five corps members and apprehend the perpetrators.
