By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Isa Kwarra, has urged bloggers, social media influencers, and activists to mobilise the general public, most especially the youth population through their various platforms for active participation in the forthcoming 2023 population and Housing Census.

Kwarra made this call at a one-day interactive workshop for bloggers and social media influencers organised by the National Population Commission in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Abuja on Saturday.

Kwarra, ably represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Alhaji Husaini Isiyaku, emphasised that the youth constitute a significant proportion of active internet and social media users and that, for the census exercise to be successful in covering this demographic, clear, deliberate, and effective sensitization and mobilization strategies must be designed to reach them.

He noted that an assemblage of bloggers and social media influencers could play an essential role in mobilising the youth population to participate in the census, and thus, their buy-in is crucial.

The NPC boss, while commenting on the preparations made so far by the Commission to ensure accurate and reliable census, said the Commission had made significant progress in preparation for the Census

In his remarks, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari, underscored the importance of population and housing census, saying that the exercise would help Nigeria to plan and achieve sustainable development.

Abari who was also represented by Mrs. Theresa Maduekwe, called on all Nigerians to join hands with the Commission to make the 2023 census exercise a resounding success.

Participants were drawn from across the states of the federation, with at least one blogger representing each state.
