By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Ilorin Emirate Youths Development Association (IEYDA) has issued a statement on Friday commending the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Baba Alkali, for the successful monitoring of the conduct of the 2023 general elections across the country.

The group also expressed appreciation to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) for a job well done during the exercise.

It also extended gratitude to other agencies like the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS), Nigeria Army (NA), Nigeria Navy (NN), Nigeria Air Force (NAF), and the Nigeria Legion, among other security, military, and para-military agencies, for their contributions towards ensuring a peaceful and transparent election process.

The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Uthman Jagunma, stated that the successful conduct of the 2023 elections indicated Nigeria’s readiness for positive change, democratic advancement, and promotion of peaceful coexistence in the country, which would enhance the nation’s image globally.

Jagunma, who is also a community development expert and the National Auditor of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free, fair, and credible election despite pre-election tensions and threats from different individuals and groups across the country.

The group also lauded members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) and other Ad-Hoc staff for their patriotism and dedication to the unity and peaceful coexistence of the nation.

The IEYDA, however, urged INEC not to rest on its laurels in conducting free elections in some parts of the country where supplementary elections are required.

IEYDA, therefore, thanked the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, for his fatherly support to all candidates of political parties before, during, and after the polls, while advising youths to remain veritable tools for democratic and good governance in the country.
