The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Kwara State has adopted a former two-term member of the state House of Assembly, Prince Moshood Bakare, as its consensus candidate for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bakare, an Igbaja-born politician, emerged after stakeholders from the 83 wards of Kwara South deliberated on the zoning and selection of candidates for the National Assembly seats being contested by the party.
The consensus arrangement was reached during a meeting held at the PDP State Secretariat in Ilorin, where party leaders, aspirants and other stakeholders considered candidates for the Kwara South Senatorial District and the Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero and Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun federal constituencies.
Following extensive consultations, arguments and counter-arguments, the stakeholders zoned the Kwara South Senatorial ticket to the Ibolo axis, the Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency ticket to the Omu-Aran axis and the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency ticket to the Ifelodun axis.

The development positions Bakare as the PDP’s preferred candidate to reclaim the federal constituency comprising Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bawa said the consensus arrangement followed extensive consultations among party leaders and stakeholders, stressing that unity and collective responsibility would be crucial to the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections.
The party chairman subsequently mandated the State Working Committee to proceed with arrangements for rerun primary elections for the three National Assembly positions.
The dates, time and other details of the primaries are expected to be announced by the party at the appropriate time.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Elders Council, Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani, appealed to aspirants and party members to accept the decisions reached by the stakeholders.
Fulani urged those who participated in the process to place the party’s electoral interest above personal ambition and work together towards victory in 2027.
He said the zoning and consensus arrangements were reached after stakeholders considered what they believed were the party’s strongest options for winning the various constituencies.
The PDP elders’ council chairman urged all aspirants who contested for the tickets to support the leadership and the consensus candidates, saying their cooperation would be necessary to deliver all the party’s candidates at the general elections.
The consensus candidates are expected to participate in the party’s rerun primaries before their candidacies are formally concluded in line with the electoral process.
