As the year draws to a close, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified its advocacy and sensitization campaigns to ensure safe travels on Nigerian roads.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed is urging commuters to be vigilant and mindful of drivers who show signs of recklessness and drunkenness.
The warning comes on the heels of two recent crashes in Kwara State, one in Jebba on December 26, 2024, and another on the Owo-Ikare route on December 28, 2024.

According to the Corps Marshal, these crashes were caused by driver negligence and recklessness, which could have been prevented if passengers had taken action.
To mitigate the risk of preventable crashes, the FRSC advises commuters to exercise caution when boarding vehicles, be aware of their surroundings, and ensure that their drivers are not under any influence.
Commuters are also encouraged to check the driver’s behavior and attitude, as well as the vehicle’s condition, before embarking on their journey.
The Corps Marshal emphasized that the safety of all road users is of utmost importance and urged commuters to take responsibility for their safety.
He noted that passengers have a critical role to play in preventing road crashes by reporting any concerns to the FRSC or other security agencies along their route.
