Troops Capture Notorious IPOB Commander, Recover Weapons in Imo, Abia

Troops of Operation UDO KA have apprehended a wanted commander of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during operations across the South-East.

 

The Defence Headquarters confirmed the arrest of the commander, identified as Uche Okafor, also known as “Whipper”, in an intelligence-led raid conducted between October 3 and 8 in Oru West, Owerri West, Mbano, and Umuahia South Local Government Areas of Imo and Abia States.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, troops also neutralised one terrorist and recovered assorted weapons, vehicles, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

 

He further disclosed that four additional suspects were arrested in Ihiala and Enugu East Local Government Areas of Anambra and Enugu States.

 

Kangye said the military remains resolute in dismantling all criminal structures in the South-East, assuring Nigerians that the Armed Forces would sustain both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to restore peace.

 

“The arrest of these criminal elements is a strong signal that no hideout will shield perpetrators of violence from justice,” Kangye added.
