The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) has welcomed a delegation from a Spanish corporation to discuss collaboration on women empowerment in aquaculture.

The Council’s Head of Public Relations, Khadijat O. Ameen made the disclosure in a statement obtained by INCNews247 on Tuesday.

Ameen noted that the visiting team was led by Beatriz Navalón, who said the aim of the visit was to inform ARCN of the corporation’s partnership with the Regional Center of Excellence in Aquaculture, a unit hosted by the council.

Meanwhile, ARCN’s Executive Secretary, management staff, and members of the Regional Center of Excellence expressed appreciation for the visit.

Dr Charity Obetta, Coordinator of the Regional Center, said the collaboration came at a time it was needed by many Nigerian youths and women.

She explained that the centre supports the aquaculture value chain by training participants in fish seed production, table fish farming, processing, trade, and feed production.

Dr Aliyu Shuaibu Madugu, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at ARCN, stressed the council’s previous programmes, noting their contribution to agricultural research and development and Nigeria’s food sustainability efforts.
