MURIC to Hold Public Lecture on Insecurity, Drug Abuse in Abuja

The Abuja chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has announced plans to organise a public lecture to address the rising challenges of insecurity and drug abuse in the country.
The lecture, according to the organisation, will hold on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the National Mosque Conference Hall, Central Area, Abuja, by 10:00am.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the chapter, Lukman Laleye Babalola, the lecture is themed “Towards Changing the Narrative on Insecurity and Drug Abuse in Nigeria for Better,” with a focus on “The Role of the Ummah in Addressing Insecurity and Drug Abuse in Nigeria.”

The statement said the programme is aimed at mobilising the Muslim community and the wider society to take collective responsibility in tackling insecurity and substance abuse through practical and value-based approaches.
It said the event will feature the Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Femi Babafemi, and the Deputy Ameera of Women in Da’wah, Hajia Rahma Musa Sani, as speakers.
Special guests of honour at the lecture include the Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The Chairman of the occasion is Prof. Abba Gambo, FHSN, Agricultural Adviser to the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), while the Chairperson is Hajia Amina A. Abdullahi, mni, Ameera of Al-Ansar (The Helpers).
Traditional rulers expected to attend include the Emir of Nasarawa, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril, and the Gomo of Kuje, HRH Alhaji Haruna Jibril Tanko, alongside other religious and community leaders.
The statement added that the Zonal Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), North Central, Rev. Dr. Simon A. S. Dolly-KIF, HFCDA, will attend the event as the Christian Guest of Honour.
The lecture will be hosted by the Chairman of MURIC Abuja chapter, Ustaz Yunus Salahudeen.
MURIC called on members of the public, youth groups, faith leaders and civil society organisations to attend the lecture, describing it as a timely intervention in view of the country’s security and social challenges.
