The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU FCT has distributed over 1,000 bags of rice and semovita to Ilorin indigenes residing in Abuja as part of its Ramadan food support initiative.

The distribution took place during the second edition of the union’s Ramadan Food Support Programme held at its secretariat in Utako, Abuja on Saturday.

The event also featured an iftar session where members gathered to break their fast.

The food items were distributed through the union’s eleven branches in the FCT to ensure wider reach among members, while students of the University of Abuja under the Ilorin Emirate Students Union also benefited from the gesture.

In his remarks, the Chairman of IEDPU FCT, Alhaji Lukman Abdullah Atanda, said the initiative was aimed at supporting members of the Ilorin community during the holy month of Ramadan.

He said, “Ramadan is a period that encourages compassion, generosity and care for one another. As a union, we consider it necessary to extend support to our people, particularly during this sacred period.”

Atanda added that the programme reflects the union’s commitment to the welfare of Ilorin indigenes living in the Federal Capital Territory.

He said, “Through our eleven branches, we ensured that the food items reach a large number of beneficiaries across the FCT. We also considered our students at the University of Abuja because they are part of our community and many of them are away from home.”

The chairman commended members and donors who supported the initiative, noting that their contributions made the programme successful.

Also speaking, the Vice President of IEDPU (North), Barrister Ahmed Moyosore, who witnessed the distribution, praised the IEDPU FCT for sustaining the Ramadan support initiative.

He said, “What the IEDPU FCT has done is highly commendable. It demonstrates the spirit of unity, compassion and community support which Ramadan teaches.”

Moyosore added that the gesture would go a long way in supporting members of the Ilorin community during the fasting period.

He said, “Initiatives like this strengthen the bond among our people and remind us of the importance of looking out for one another, especially during a period like Ramadan.”
