The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, has said at least 40 per cent of its programmes are deliberately designed to promote gender inclusion, as it announced a partnership with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, to expand digital literacy and skills among women nationwide.
The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, disclosed this while receiving the National President of NAWOJ, Aishatu Ibrahim, and other members of the association during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit also featured discussions on the forthcoming Women in Security Summit and Awards 2026, with NITDA pledging to support and actively participate in the event.

Represented by the Director of Stakeholders Management and Partnerships, Dr Aristotle Onumo, Inuwa said gender inclusion remained a core pillar of the agency’s digital transformation agenda, stressing that women must not be left behind in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
He noted that the partnership with NAWOJ would create more opportunities for women journalists and other women across the country to acquire digital skills and benefit from NITDA’s capacity-building initiatives.
“Inclusivity is the key to everything we do at NITDA. We clearly defined that 40 per cent of our programmes must recognise the issue of gender. We ensure that women are adequately represented and positioned to benefit greatly from the programmes that we organise in the agency,” he said.
He added that beyond supporting the security summit, the collaboration would provide a platform to extend digital literacy initiatives to women-led groups across the federation.
“We graciously accept to participate actively in that conference. Apart from acquiring skills among journalists themselves, partnership with NAWOJ will also serve as a platform through which we can reach out to various women’s groups across the federation,” Inuwa added.
Earlier, NAWOJ President Ibrahim commended the NITDA boss for championing Nigeria’s digital economy through innovative programmes and reforms.
She described the Women in Security Summit and Awards 2026 as an initiative aimed at bringing together government institutions, security agencies, technology experts, media professionals and other stakeholders to explore technology-driven solutions to emerging security challenges.
According to her, the association also seeks to establish a long-term partnership with NITDA to empower women journalists with digital skills while promoting innovation, digital inclusion and human capital development.
