The Jigawa State Police Command has appealed to residents not to panic over gunshots expected to be heard during a firearms proficiency exercise scheduled for Sunday at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range in Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The command said the exercise forms part of its routine operational training designed to improve the firearms handling skills and combat readiness of police personnel.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam and obtained by INCNews247, the command assured residents that the exercise would be conducted in a controlled environment and should not be mistaken for a security emergency.

“The Command wishes to inform the general public that all preparations have been made to conduct a shooting range exercise for its personnel tomorrow, Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range, located at Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area,” the statement read.
Adam said the training was part of the command’s regular firearms proficiency programme aimed at enhancing officers’ professionalism, operational effectiveness and combat preparedness.
According to him, the exercise is intended to strengthen the capacity of personnel in carrying out their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across the state.
He urged residents, particularly those in Tsohon Gari and neighbouring communities, to remain calm if they hear repeated gunshots during the exercise.
“Members of the public, particularly residents of Tsohon Gari and its surrounding communities, are hereby advised not to panic upon hearing gunshots within the period of the exercise,” he said.
The police spokesman explained that the live-fire drill would be conducted under strict supervision with adequate safety measures in place.
He also advised members of the public to stay away from the shooting range throughout the exercise to ensure their safety and enable security personnel to carry out the training without interruption.
“The firing will be carried out in a controlled and secured environment under strict supervision. The Command further appeals to residents to avoid the immediate vicinity of the shooting range throughout the duration of the exercise to ensure public safety and facilitate the smooth conduct of the training,” Adam added.
He said the advisory was issued to prevent unnecessary panic among residents and thanked the people of the state for their continued cooperation with security agencies.
