JUST IN: Army Refutes Report of Bandits Overrunning Troops in Kwara

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false a report circulating online alleging that bandits overran troops and carted away weapons and ammunition in Obanla, Kwara State.

In a statement issued on Sunday and seen by INCNews247, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, described the report as “a fabrication designed to mislead the public and undermine the morale of gallant troops.”

He explained that contrary to the claims, troops of 148 Battalion (Rear) conducting clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States have continued to achieve significant operational successes.

According to the Army, during a recent encounter along the Kwara–Ekiti border axis, troops mounted a blocking position where they neutralised two armed bandits and recovered two brand new AK-47 rifles.

“At no time were Army positions overrun, nor was any cache of weapons or ammunition lost to criminal elements,” Okoye clarified.

He added that the sensational publication was the handiwork of mischief-makers bent on creating fear and casting aspersions on the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring peace and stability in the region.

“Members of the public are urged to disregard the false report and continue to support the military with timely and credible information,” the statement added.

Lieutenant Colonel Okoye further assured that the Nigerian Army remains resolute in dismantling all criminal networks operating across Kogi, Kwara, and adjoining states, pledging that ongoing operations will be sustained until lasting peace is achieved.
